LWR is in the midst of responding to the devastating floods in Pakistan. Torrential rains, along with excessive water flow, continue to cause floods, overflow river banks and force thousands more from their homes in Pakistan where monsoon rains, which began in late July, are causing the worst natural disaster in Pakistan in 80 years.
LWR, as part of the ACT Alliance, a global coalition of churches and agencies engaged in development, humanitarian response and advocacy, has been involved in delivering 70 tons of food to 500 households in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
But this is just the beginning. LWR not only helps in emergency situations, but continues work in places that fall out of the news such as Sri Lanka, still struggling from the destruction of war in 2008; Myanmar, still recovering from cyclone damage; and in many other countries where LWR is working to fight malaria, a curable, preventable disease that still kills thousands of people each year.
